Please Note: This product is a physician-strength and physician-dispensed product and requires a telephone consultation with a licensed professional before ordering this product for the first time. Please follow instructions carefully to avoid any harsh skin reactions. The use of Hydroquinone and Retinol is not recommended during pregnancy or in children under the age of 12. It is not known whether topical Hydroquinoine or Retinol affects human milk, so its use is not recommended for nursing mothers. Hydroquinone and Retinol can cause sensitivity, so it is recommended to test a small amount of bleaching cream or gel on the skin and wait 24 hours. Minor redness is expected, but if you experience blistering or an excessive amount of inflammation discontinue use. If no lightening is noted after 2 months of treatment, the medication should also be discontinued.

I paid $100 to see my dermatologist who recommended Obagi clear for my dark spots & melasma. I have been using this 2x a day for 7 months and have seen ZERO improvement. I wear spf50 everyday to stop the dark spots from getting darker and the OBAGI DOES NOT make the spots any lighter. It also cost me $90 for this expensive product. DO NOT BUY OBAGI, IT JUST DOENS'T WORK! I have $190 less in my pocket and many dark spots after 7 months of morning and night application. I am only 35 and am not in the sun very much. I thought Obagi whitening cream would help lighten my spots, but I was wrong. Just thought I'd share my experience in using OBAGI.
In order to get results, you have to use ALL of the products together rather than just one or a couple. after three months of useing ALL of the steps in the obagi treatment, that is when you are ready to do an obagi blue peel, depending on if you need one or not. I am on week 15 of nuderm and if you hang in there and use all of the steps as directed, you will see results. It just takes patients. Rather than a bluepeel, im doin a scion laser treatment, cuz I still have sum acne scars left behind. The nuderm alone tho, definatly improved them!
Obagi does work, HOWEVER, you have to use it with exfoderm, clear, blender and sunfader. All of these, every day, some twice/day and you have to use a good sunscreen like Total Block which you need to apply at least twice/day and try as much as possible to stay out of the sun. I don't have melasma spots on my face anymore

Yes, that\'s an interesting reason given but why aren\'t they offering an OBAGI Alternative product that is available???
The Obagi Alternative is not hydroquinone free but does lighten. It contains Arbutin which is high in hydroquinone. This is an effective OBAGI ALTERNATIVE. Why not offer this as an alternative since it REQUIRES NO DEBATES BUT THE PHYSICIAN HERE AND UTAH LICENSING???
Read one of the comments at the bottom who has been using the Obagi Nu Derm Clear FX and the Obagi Nu Derm Blender FX with great results. There is no reason to search for alternative products when Obagi manufactures it's own alternative hydroquinone-free Clear and Blender products. Search "Obagi Nu Derm Clear FX and Blender FX. It's out there but for some reason not many seem to want you to know that it exists. It's like Obagi's Tretinoin. He also designed a Tretinoin in collaboration with Spear to produce a Tretinoin for mature, drier skin, to be used with the Obagi program. It's called Obagi Refissa and it's the only FDA approved generic form of Renova. So for those women out there, mature or not, who have dry skin and no acne or rosecea problems, this is available. Check out the web thoroughly. There are many reputable sites that are more than happy to sell Obagi and certainly have no problem selling their "no prescription" alternatives.
I meant to say that the Obagi Alternative IS hydroquinone free...and works well. Also, since it is hydroquinone free there is no reason not to offer it as an alternative. It's omission as an alternative to Obagi users falls Completely Outside the reason given for the removal of Obagi prescription products. The only issue needing discussing here is "why is Obagi's Alternative Clear and Blender not being offered?
Hello...I have been using Obagi for 5 years. I started using it when they still offered the clear and the blender. The alternate products work just as well. I would definetly give them a chance.
Does anyone know whether the product is still good after it turns light brown? My Clear is not that old--definitely less than a year old. I have used this on and off over the years and I don't recall the product turning brown like this before. Please advise.
Products with hydroquinone turn light brown when the product is exposed to oxygen. The ingredients are still effective for 2 years after the product is opened.
I read somewhere.. sorry I can't remember where that when it turns yellow or brown is has expired. It also said it is very unstable - so if exposed to heat or humidity will deteriorate the quality of the product. Says to not keep in the bathroom. I know, pain in the rear.
Hello, the first time I bought this product, I bought it through my dermatologist and the color changed after awhile so I asked about it. My dermatologist said the color change is normal, especially after being exposed to air numerous times. Hope that helps!
I am a 1st time user and when I use step 3 and 5--I experience dizziness,shortness of breath, sensitivity in my nostrils and mouth. I am not sure if I am just having a nervous reaction as I have had some bad allergic reactions to medicaitons in the past or if Obagi is too much for me

I'm also a first time user of the obagi-c system that I purchase through my dermatologist, I use the system the night before bed and a woke the next morning very dizzy and could barley stand. I was dizzy for two days have never had this to happen to me before until I use this product. I kept trying to figure out what did I do the day before to cause the dizziness and decided to go on the website to find out what the side effects were and when I seen that this product also made another person dizzy I can only say I wish I had did my research before purchasing such a expensive product. I will just continue to use my own sunblock and stay out the sun.

Haven't started using this product yet a friend of mine who has beautiful skin told me what to purchase and the web site she told me to go to is called Levanskincare.com and they have the entire line of obagi products there. Ordering the clear and the blend this week already have been using the trentinoin and see a huge difference even with that after only 2 weeks so looking forward to the combination effects the other stuff will have.

Why is it when it works, they take it off the market
I had a sample of this from my doctors office that I forgot about as they tell me to try each sample for at least a month to see if there is any change or reaction. I used it when I rediscovered it in the make up drawer.....fabulous....came here to purchase and it was suddenly temporarily unavailable....so I waited and came back again only to find now it is completely unavailable. I am so disappointed. I can only hope they still sell it at my docs office, but their prices are crazy expensive. I try to buy online so I can afford a treatment in their office, but now I will have to skip a treatment to buy this if they still have it!

This M2 Lotion doesn't!! I have freckles as well as melasma and when I found the Obagi Nu Derm Clear I got this new, flawless skin. I am now in my third month of non-stop daily use of the M2 Lotion and the uneven pigmentation of my sking is noticeable. PLEASE find a way to have the Nu Derm Clear available on-line for us. If you are thinking about trying the M2 Lotion, don't bother - even with the $25 e-Gift certificate is a waste of your money!!

I have been using the OBAGI System for about two years. I tried the M2 alternatibve product and it does not compare at all with OBAGI Clear. I do not recommend it.
Please bring this product back to the market. My skin is not the same since I stopped using it.

I am using Obagi #3,#4 ad #5. My face is ligter around my eyes, cheekbone and mouth area. My doctor did not give me the Tretinoin to go with the #5. Is i complusory that I have it. Seeing that I am no using it what would be the side effect or what will or will not happen. Some please help me.

I have had horrible acne for the past 5 years, this is the first time I have had fresh clean looking skin and finally can go out in public with out wearing makeup. I use the clear in the am and the blender in the pm, plus duac in the moring and retin a in the evenings. I was skeptical at first when it seemed it wasnt getting any better but finally woke up one morning and I am a new me. I will pay any cost for clear skin and thank my dermatologist for recommending these products. I also use La Roche- Posay.
I love the product. Just started using a month ago. It was hard in the begining but I have tried to be patient. I spend so much on my face but nothing seem to be working. I think am going to be happy with Obaji. My only problem, my face is getting too light. As my co-worker pointed out I am not using to my face beed light becasue the acne spot had taken over and I am use to see the dark sports. I am so happy she pointed that out. So I think I am going to stick with it. I only gave it a 3 becasue I am just starting out. But it should realy be a 5.
Ok...I admit I strayed for 2 months from clear and the other products in the Obagi line. I have been a customer on and off for 3 years. BIG MISTAKE to go off this product. I had someone recommend something else. I am back on and so much happier. The only thing that works on spots.
I utlized the Obagi system. First weeks of use, my skin lightened and spots seemed to darken- even using a retin combo with Blender. A little bit later, they are starting to fade noticibly. I am so far pleased with the progress. I have read spots return if you stop using product. This I am not aware but will ask my derm' Dr.
Not sure if the obagi clear is working for me - I am peeling (which I understand is normal) and the dark spots on my chin seem to have gotten darker and made worse....am I doing something wrong?
My melasma got worse with Obagi. Don't buy this product. Now I got dark patches all over my face and had to resort to Fraxel laser treatment which only lighten a little.
to rea, i broke out too and the system says lines and acne may get worse but it's temporary and well worth it. i am 7 weeks in and glowing. my melasma form pregnancy is gone and my overall skin quallity is awesome (having been dull before) hand in there, if pimples are bad and worsening see a derm just in case.

I dont have a lot of pimples but i get frecles once in a while thats wh i started using this. Anyway Dr told me to continue using it. I have been using the entire Obagi line since last July 08...peeled, redness, - I looked crazy.. hung in there..so glad I did... the results were simply amazing on my skin. I am 56 and my friends want my skin now! Be careful that you do not get too comfortable and think you can stop using the #3 - Clear.. I did and my face get that yellowish cast back again.. started using every day again for the past week and my face has that pink glow again.. just go to maintaince of 3 -4 x a week ..but DO NOT STOP using this product!

I have nothing to say but good things about the OBAJI line kind of. I have been off an on for some time with the whole line. The only thing is that you may have to go a couple of rounds with the product to get awesome results.It could get expensive. You will get some results but awesome wiLL take some time. I am African American and I love Obaji it is the best thing that I have had that even comes close to dealing with tmy problems. I mean I have the oiliest greasy acne prone skin ever and this stuff works. I especilly like the c rx serum and the exfoliating day and night cream. Only been using that a few days and I am getiing smooth already. Give it a chance you have nothing to loose but skin!
This is an excellent skin care program. I would however, suggest that everyone should read the ingredients and make sure you are not allergic to any of them. I happened to be allergic to an ingredient in the toner. After leaving that off, I was fine.
I recently got laid off from my job a few months ago due to the recession. In nthat time I neglected my skin terribly. I have been interviewing and keeping busy and got so tired that sometimes I went to bed in MY MAKEUP. A week ago I decided to get my skin back on track and in a week just on the clear alone I notice that my dark spots are beginning to lighten. I am looking to see what else I can buy cause the clear alone is like $90 bucks, but it works and my skin slightly peels, but is already clearing up and looking better after one week. Also, you need to remember to drink a lot of water, don't smoke and don't drink alocohol and don't sleep in makeup and avoid fried foods too and eat lots of veggies and use the clear and you will see the difference in your skin.

I told my doctor that I tried the Obagi line in the past and could not tolerate it at all. My face was hurting, and sooo sensitive to the sun. He agreed that using a skincare to reduce the signs of aging is old school and could leave you with more downtime and the chances of brown spots and wrinkles could come back twice as fast if I do not protect myself with at least a 70 SPF, and a hat. He explained that the professional glycolic peels and laser treatments give better results without the downtime, continued expense and less chance of brown spots coming back. He said skincare today is used to heel the skin like using potent anti-oxidants to provide the skin with food, vitamins and nutrients after the peels. I have since tried a professional glycolic peel and I am much happier with the results. I use a product line with Coffeeberry in it to calm and protect my skin from Future aging.

After having laser treatements at a doctors office for acne scarring, rosea etc. This treatmentd did not work well for me, was expensive and left my face with dark spots. Thank goodness I found this! It did make my skin peel but mostly in the places with the problems. Much cheaper and safer than the laser treatments. You will not be dissapointed.

after having TCA&phenol blend peel my light asian skin was totally ruined. i have post-inflammatory pigmentation on my cheek bones & dark blotches around my mouth. i was devastated, but after consulting w/ Dr.Obagi in Beverly Hills,Ca, he prescribed me Nu-Derm system(some of the products r not available online) along w/ customized his new skincare line "Zo skin health". is it safe to use hydroquinone 4% for a long period time? some says taking a break for 3 mon. is recommanded after 6 mon of using it,then go back using it again. does anybody know?
I am 58 yrs. old and I have used every skincare product out there. I have not had many skin problems but I do have sun damage from my youth and large pores with combination oily complexion. I am 30 and have suffered from acne since my teen years. 5 years ago a Dr. prescribed Retin-A while I was deployed in Kuwait. I peeled and even with sunscreen I received 2nd degree burns on my face. I was given antibiotics(Clindamycin) and Benzoyl Peroxide (5%)I have tried every over the counter product, spent thousands on skin peels, laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion, botanical resurfacing, facials,etc all to no avail. I'm in Afghanistan now and recently went to a new dermatologist while on leave. She recommended the Obagi System and I have been using it four weeks now. My skin is not completely clear but it seems like a miracle that the hyperpigmentation is lightening. I didnt peel much because I had been using Retin-A (off and on)for years. I do not use Retin-A with the system because of the bad reaction I had with it. My self-confidence has increased and I get compliments on a daily basis!!
i just bought my obagi nu-derm clear from my dermatologist but before using it, i checked the main ingredient: HYDROQUINONE USP 4%. what bothers me most is that this is ban in france and in europe because of it is a cancer risk. Now i'm not so sure anymore whether to start using it...can u please lighten me up?
I have been using the Obagi Nu-Derm system off and on since it came out in the 90s. It will work on anything. Last year I tried a TCA peel. I am african american, and it destroyed my skin. I had black, not dark, but black blotches on my cheeks, the sides of my face, under my lip, on my nose, under my eyes. It was horrible, and I had to live an go to work like that. It was so bad that when it happened, my skin was so damaged that nothing I did would work. I had to wait months for it to settle down and heal. I January of this year, I went to a dermatologis who put me on Renove 2%. She said that my skin would improve but it would take about a year. I used it for 2 weeks, and when I had no bad reaction, I ordered the Obagi system. As far as the doctor knew I was simply using the Renova. In 6 weeks when I returned to the doctor, they were all amazed at the difference, but I still had a long way to go. You have to understand how damaged my skin was.
I am happy to report that as of today, My skin is almost, but not quite flawless. I believe I will get to the flawless stage within the next 2 weeks. Right now I am a little red in some areas. For me when my skin is doing well, redness is a precursor to clearing. The dark spots are all gone. I would also like to tell you that I am 59, I have ot one wrinkle, not one line, no sagging, no puffy eyes, no marionette lines, no creeping around the eyes, nothing. I know people say this all the time, but you cannot tell my age. I attribute my good skin to using the Obagi sunscreen, and suncreen period every day summer and winter, for the last 15 years, and to using the Obagi system for the last 10 years.
You cannot stop. You can take breaks, and go to the maintenance program, then repeat the program for a short period of time every few months, but once you stop using the system, your flawless skin will be no more. I'm no doctor, but I think that Obagi works by peeling away the to layers to show the beautiful skin underneath, and once you stop using the system, you don't peel anymore.
I love the product so much, that I sent the company an email, but I probably sounded a little crazy, and I never got a response. I figured that anyone who was alomost 6 and looked to be in their thirties would be a great rep. Good luck to all of you. And for those who ask, Murad nor any other product is as good as Obagi.
I have been blessed with great skin, but spending my teens and twenties baking in the hot Florida sun finally caught up with me in the form of sun spots and discoloration in my 40's. My dermatologist put me on Obagi and within months the age spots and discolorations were gone. Unfortunately I made the mistake of stopping the program because I thought it was too expensive. The spots returned. In an effort to save money I foolishly tried just about everything else out there with no results. My face is now one even skin tone, my acne scars are gone, I don't even need to wear much makeup, since my face is so clear and even. Well worth it!
The only thing not to like about this product is what will become your constant need for it! I stopped using it for a spell, and I really noticed a (negative) difference. It really works and allows me to go without makeup, without looking like a swamp creature! (I have a lot of hyperpigmentation on my cheeks). Highly recommend it. It works best for me in tandem with the other products (especially the Blender/trentinoin night combo).
I used Obagi Nu Derm System for 6 months and WOW, the results were fantastic! I stopped using because i was comfortable with a completely clear complexion. I had about 1 year of complete bliss, then the monthly period flare ups started and once again-Hyperpigmentation spots! So I'm BACK ON OBAGI never to part! My plan is to clear up everything totally, then do a maintenance of using every other day.
I'm 43. I started using the Clear and the Tretinoin / Blender in June 2007. It cleared the dark spots and patches on my cheeks, nose and forehead within weeks, except one stubborn area on my forehead, which has taken longer.
I noticed that the crepe skin under my eyes (thin, finely-wrinkled skin) started to improve, and it is about 90% improved now. I didn't expect that to happen, so that was an added bonus as I have been very self-conscious of the crepe skin under my eyes. Also, the small "crystalized" zits I frequently got on my nose have totally stopped appearing. The frown line on my forehead (between my eyebrows) totally disappeared, and my smile lines have diminished considerably. I am thoroughly pleased and amazed at the results of these products. I didn't expect as much...I was just trying to get rid of the brown spots. They are definitely worth the money.
I also started using the Clear on my chest, where I had a lot of sun damage...reddness and brown spots. It's been several weeks now and it is almost completely gone. My chest looks much better.
The only downside is that I did experience redness, flaking, irritation (on my face) and an increase of reddish spots (on my chest) before things improved. But if you just hang in there, these issues will eventually disappear. It's a sign that the products are working.
I don't normally write to recommend things, but these products have been fabulous. The other night at Bunko, a friend of mine I hadn't seen in a few months told me that I look younger and my skin looks so good. (She had no idea I was using anything.) That really made me feel good.
I will continue using these products as long as I can afford to!
As an aesthetician, I recommend my clients to use the clear and blender for 6 months then they must switch to botanicals because the hydroquinone works at a cellular level. They can go back on the system if they need to after this resting phase of at least 3 months. I recommend skinceuticals phyto+.
Obagi clear is the only product that has been successful in fading my hyperpigmentation. I tried mama lotion and it did nothing. Im inlove with obagi clear. I expect to see my hyperpigmentation totally gone in a few more months. People say they peel with this but I never have, it just fades it. Sometimes the dark spots kind of peel, but not bad.
I have been using the Obagi system since the first of November, and have noticed drastic results for my sun spots, and for fine lines on my forehead. I go through the clear faster than anything else, probably because I like it the most. I used Murad for 2 years while in high school, and was never as satisfied as I am with Obagi. In fact, I noticed almost no improvement at all. However, I found this to be true with Pro-Active as well, and many of my friends like it and think it's the only thing that helps them. I guess you just have to find your nitch.
I am a Master Aesthetician and have alot of experience with Obagi Nu Derm. You will notice results with 4% Hydroquinone. Don't waste your time and money on 2%. Your physician can give you a topical antibiotic to use with Nu Derm that should improve your acne. I assume you are also using Retin A with this. Best of luck!
I sue the whole system and am amazed at the difference one month has made. I am 34 years old and was starting to have a "tired" look to my skin. This has brightened my face, reduced fine lines and freckles as well as my brown spot has faded. I highly recommend!
I have enjoyed this obagi line as a whole, I do like the clear, but I have run out and am debating whether or not to continue using it or if I should try Murad? I have a good friend with acne like I do and she swears by Murad. Murad also has a "clear" comparable product with hydorquinone, although, not as much 2% instead of 4%. Does anyone know or have any
I love this product and I highly recommend it. I often receive compliments on how great my skin looks. Recently, I changed to Obagi Nu-Derm Clear FX. It does not contain hydroquinone. Instead, it contains Arbutin and anti-oxidants. I find it just as effective as the original Obagi Nu-Derm Clear, but not at all harsh on my skin. I also use Obagi Nu-Derm Blend FX (also with Arbutin instead of hydroquinone) with tretinoin 0.05 and Obagi Nu-Derm Exfoderm Forte. I have tried other products, but keep coming back to Obagi. It is the only one that really works for me. It is worth every penny!
