I use this astringent in the morning after washing with LaRoche Posay Effaclar Gel. It has a nice clean smell and is soothing on my skin and doesn't burn when applying. It also seems to make the mattifying moisturizer go on more smoothly and cling better. While I generally believe astringents aren't needed, this one has Salicylic Acid and keeps my breakouts at bay while not overdrying.
This is my morning cleanser for my oily skin. About a dime-sized amount is all I use in the shower. It has a nice clean smell, creates a nice foamy lather and leaves my face squeaky clean. I follow with Effaclar Toner and Mattifying Moisturizer and then my makeup. This cleanser is nice and gentle and not overdrying on my cheeks, which don't tend to get as oily as my T-zone.
I started using this a few months ago after my old standby oil control lotion started to fail.
In the morning I wash with the Effaclar Foaming Gel, follow with the toner, and then put this on my face and allow it to dry. I follow with my makeup. I've found I only have to blot a couple of times a day even in the heat of summer (temps of 95 and up with heat indexes into 110 range). Not sure what they put into this but it really works well and doesn't tend to break down in the heat.
As you can see, I reviewed this set of products on 3/11/10. It's now been 5 months and I'm still using it, although I use the PCA line ONLY at night. During the day, I get into the shower and wash with La Roche Posay Effaclar Gel and then tone with their toner and then follow with their mattifing moisturizer. I have VERY oily skin despite being 40 years old and La Roche Posay's mattifying moisturizer is great stuff for making your makeup cling well even on oily skin. I could have tried to use PCA during the day but as oily as I get, I was worried about my makeup's ability to cling to my skin with only the Clearskin as a moisturizer.
At night, I use the PCA line. I wash with (pHaze 1) Facial Wash for Oily/Problem Skin, follow with smoothing toner (pHaze2), and clearskin (pHaze18). I use the pHaze 13 pigment gel and the A&C serum (pHaze 23) every OTHER night before I put on the clearskin. I was unable to use it every night without peeling and redness. I also exfoliate/mask using pHaze 9 once a week and use pHaze 4 exfoliator once a week. For those who've noticed redness and peeling using the pigment gel every night, I'd recommend kicking back to every OTHER night.
I can't remember the last time I had a real zit. The dark areas on my forehead from taking birth control for 20 years and being exposed to sunlight have ligtened and the years of sun damage to my cheeks has greatly diminished. This is great stuff and I'm glad I switched.
I was having the same issues you are reporting when I was using the pigment gel and the A&C every night. The label says use 2x a day but there's NO way I could do that. I have very oily skin and must use something during the day under my makeup to control the oil production so my makeup will stay on at work. I'm using PCA only at night. I use La Roche Posay during the day (love their mattifing moisturizer).
Anyway, on the PCA Pigment Gel. Kick back to using it EVERY OTHER day only at night. See if that clears up the redness. Also, be sure to exfoliate as necessary.
