• Corallina Officinalis Extract

Derived from coral algae, Corallina is a mineral-rich extract that has the unusual ability to produce a gel coating as a form of self-defense. As a skin care ingredient, this type of red algae inhibits the production of the free radical nitric oxide, which is associated with skin irritation and reduces the inflammatory response and tissue damage. Corallina Extract may also increase the skin’s moisture content, and while acting as an anti-inflammatory, can benefit those with very sensitive skin types. By reducing inflammation from sunburn, Corallina Extract can lessen the damaging effects of UV radiation and UV-damaged cells.

    Irish Moss or Carrageenan Algae

Although not clinically proven, Irish Moss Extract has been reported to reduce inflammation. Anecdotally, the Irish used this type of red algae to treat gastrointestinal upsets or urinary system problems that resulted from inflammation. Irish Moss contains antioxidants (Vitamins A and C) and trace minerals that may attribute to reducing inflammation.
