• What is Coffee?

    The seeds of the Coffee Plant, commonly called Coffee Beans are harvested and roasted to create a caffeinated beverage called Coffee. Most people are relatively familiar with Coffee, as it is one of the most popular drinks in the world. Green unroasted coffee is one of the most traded commodities on the planet. While many have experienced or at least know about the brain stimulation that Coffee provides, few know about its skin and health benefits.

    Coffee is a triple threat. Packed with antioxidants, Coffee is also a vasodilator and a diuretic. In small doses, Coffee smooths, firms, and tightens the complexion by constricting blood vessels to relieve inflammation. Coffee is a diuretic that, when applied topically, is believed to dehydrate fat cells, minimizing the appearance of cellulite.

    What effect does Coffee have on the skin?

    As an antioxidant, Coffee helps fight free radical damage within cells. When cellular metabolic processes occur, free radicals are produced that start a chain reaction.     In one clinical study, mice being given caffeine but no opportunity to exercise showed a 95% increase in apoptosis and mice that only exercised and did not receive caffeine showed a 120% increase in apoptosis. However, a 400% increase in apoptosis was shown in mice that both exercised and consumed caffeinated water.

    Some hail Coffee as a remedy for psoriasis and rosacea. Coffee constricts blood vessels that cause the condition, thereby reducing inflammation. As a vasoconstrictor, Coffee is also beneficial in eye creams to reduce puffiness and minimize dark circles.

    When applied topically as a diuretic, Coffee has been thought to play a role in the diminished appearance in cellulite. It is believed that the caffeine flushes out the sodium, potassium, and water within fat cells in the upper legs, thighs, and buttocks. Once the cells have been dehydrated, the skin appears smoother and the appearance of cellulite is lessened.

    Other health benefits of Coffee:

    Coffee can also be consumed as a beverage to receive beneficial effects. The power of Coffee’s antioxidants can be ingested, but should be consumed in moderation. In large quantities, caffeine in Coffee can dehydrate the skin and body. Some claim that the topical application of Coffee to the scalp can stimulate hair growth for individuals encountering the effects of thinning hair or balding.
