Microdermabrasion
creams help to remove dead skin and debris on the surface of the skin. These
dead skin flakes and particles can interfere with the penetration of skin care
products. Using a microdermabrasion cream not only gives an immediately smooth,
soft surface which is pleasing to the customer, it also allows the active ingredients
in your skin care topicals to penetrate faster and more deeply into the skin.
This means that you will get better results from your other skin care products.
Microdermabrasion creams also speed up the exfoliation process, helping to more
rapidly fade age spots, blemishes, and scarring.
Microdermabrasion
creams are scrubs or facial treatments designed to replicate the results obtained
from microdermabrasion treatments in a dermatologist's office. While formulations
may differ, they all contain the same crystals used in microdermabrasion machines.
These crystals used in microdermabrasion treatments and microdermabrasion
cream contain a unique structure that makes them particularly effective at
grabbing and removing dead skin from the surface of the skin. Instead of being
round, as many beads in normal scrubs are, they are more crystalline in shape.
While this does make the product more effective, it also increases the chance
of irritation. Here are a few tips that will help you avoid irritation:
- Rub
slowly into the skin in gentle, circular motions. Be particularly careful
on the cheeks, as these tend to be more sensitive than the rest of the face.
Do not scrub aggressively.
- Do not apply
alpha hydroxy acids or salicylic acid within 12 hours of the treatment.
- If you notice
your skin becoming more sensitive to your other skin care products, you are
using the microdermabrasion cream too often. Cut back to only once a week
or once every other week.
Choosing a microdermabrasion
scrub can be difficult. We have chosen the products above for recommendation
for two important reasons: they contain anti-inflammatory ingredients and because
they contain more microdermabrasion crystals than other brands we tried, resulting
in a more effective scrub.
