Removing Blackheads
August 20, 2000
Blackheads are something almost everyone has, yet nobody wants to live with
them. So what is a good way to get rid of them?
There's the microdermabrasion route, which virtually sucks them out of the skin (this varies from $80 - $150 a pop), but there is a skincare ingredient that has been more helpful at removing these than any other non-prescription topical treatment, the beta hydroxy acid.
The beta hydroxy acid exfoliates on the surface of the skin, while its sister, the alpha hydroxy acid works underneath the surface. This surface exfoliation cleans out pores, reducing blackheads and whiteheads.
So where can you find such a product? Well, Cellex-C carries a nice line of Beta hydroxy acid products, which use the BHA, Salicylic Acid. So far, my favorites are the Betaplex Gentle Cleansing Milk, Betaplex Fresh Complexion Mist, and the Betaplex Line Smoother. The latter is a 15% AHA and BHA concentration, so it is not suitable for sensitive skin or dark skin tones. I've used the Line Smoother only 3 times so far (it is meant for use only 3 times a week), and I already see an improvement in the number of blackheads on my nose.
