New Treatments to Control
Oily Skin I have recently become acquainted with some new products aimed specifically at reducing oil in oily skin. These are different than acne treatments - which is perfect since not all people with oily skin have acne, and not all acne treatments help oily skin.
Clinac O.C.
The first product I came across was called Clinac O.C., whose advertisements were found in Cosmetic Dermatology. I then came across a little study published in the same magazine comparing Clinac with its competitor Seban. (August 2000 issue). Clinac and Seban were both formulated to improve oiliness in the skin. After 1 week of use, investigators then compared facial shininess, 1 being much worse, 2 marginally worse, 3 no change, 4 marginally better, and 5 much better. The average rating for Clinac after one week was 3.95 as compared to the 2.75 average for Seban. 57% of the patients said they preferred Clinac O.C. and 28% said they preferred Seban.
I do not believe either product is a prescription - but I will admit I have not looked into that question. Unfortunately, SkinCareRx does not carry the product, but it is something to ask your doctor about. You may also want to check your local drugstore to see if it is available there.
Neova Illuminating Mask
The second product was actually a new product in Procyte's Neova Line. The Illuminating Mask is a mask that dries into a fine powder. It is not a clay-based mask, but uses a much more potent oil absorber - fumed silicone. Fumed silicone is a fine powder that results from super heating silicone particles until they burst. This material has been shown to absorb up to five times its weight in oil. This ultra-absorption power allows it to deep clean pores and lift away more excess oil than any other mask. It is not recommended for dry or normal skin types.
