Treating Bruises, Purpura, Spider Veins, and Under-eye Circles
March 21, 2001
As one ages, the skin undergoes numerous changes. Part of these changes occur
in the vascular system. Photo-aging also affects changes in the vascular structure
by changing the structure of the surrounding collagen and creating an environment
in which the vessels break, become dead end vessels, decrease in size and
become fragile. This leads to easy bruising, spider veins, and dark under-eye
circles.
Clinical uses of vitamin K in the past have been directly linked with its
ability to influence coagulation. Studies also showed that topical application
of vitamin K decreased healing time for bruises, speeding the process by 4
or 5 days.
Vitamin K is often found in a cream formulation - though we have found a Vitamin
K Gel that penetrates more rapidly and is more suitable for use on the face.
Use of an effective Vitamin K formulation can help fade or reverse mild vascular
lesions. Telangeictasia of the face will respond within 2-3 months, whereas
spider veins on the legs may take up to 6 months to respond. Vitamin K can
also be used on Rosacea to help decrease redness and broken capillaries. It
is also very effective at fading under-eye circles caused by dark blood vessels
underlying the skin.
