I have used a prescription product for years for my retinol night cream. I read about this product - & because of my trust in Skinceuticals - I placed an order for this. I so love this cream. I prefer it to my prescription cream!
My favorite product

When I first started using this product, it caused some dryness and peeling. After a few weeks, my skin got used to it and now I won't live without this. I use it once or twice a week at bedtime. My skin looks fabulous the next day: smaller pores and fresher, younger looking skin.
Still waiting for visible results yet

- skin has a bit reacted negatively to usage 3-5 times per week
- no visible improvement to skin texture (pores on nose) and pigmentation (cheeks)
- slight itchiness on select part of face with extremely mild peeling

I use this a few times a week and on nights before important events. My skin definitely looks younger and fresh the mornings after I use it. I have never experienced any dryness or irritation.

I have been using the Skinceuticals Retinol .5 for about 5 months. When I first started using it, it made my skin red and irritated, but I was using it every night which is a no-no. You have to start out slowly with this product. I've since discovered that my tolerance level is 3 times a week. I am seeing amazing results with my skin and will continue to use this product. Everyone needs a retinol and this is an excellent product, one of the best and strongest on the market.

So far so good. Retinol seems to be the one staple in my assortment of products that I continue to use and reorder. It seems to really help with the texture of my skin. I do get better results when I use the .5 every day rather than when I tried using 1.0 strength and would get super dry and have to use it every 2 or 3 days. A little goes a long way. I also make sure I use a good moisturizer and SPF because my face will definitely get more red if I'm outside and have been using the retinol.

I think you have to start out slowly--maybe only using this 2xs a week otherwise , your skin becomes red and Very DRY. I haven't gone beyond that stage so, I don't know what to expect. I'm hoping only good things for my skin.
Nice retinol product

I have sensitive skin and, therefore, only use this product every other night. Initially, I did experience some dryness and a little redness, but now my skin has adjusted to the product. My skin texture has improved and it has helped with the appearance of a few wrinkles. I know there are no magic, fix it all products! Overall, I like this retinol and will continue to use it. I apply Skinceuticals Overnight cream over the product for super hydration.

Used first every 72 hours because I have sensitive skin and must admit second time I used really had large red areas on my face because I used too much. A pinkie finger nail amount is enough for entire face. That being said, I finally got to daily applications without reactions and am now have purchased the 1% as my original tube of .5% has gone after months of application. My skin is amazing. Wrinkles and pours shrinking. Love this product

I have only been using this cream for a couple of weeks, so it's early to talk about results. First off, do not be afraid of older reviews that states the packaging (pump) is awful. It's been changed and the cream now comes in a small aluminum tube. Application is very easy, the cream glides on the skin, thanks to extensive use of silicons in the formula. I have normal skin, neither dry nor oily, and sometimes haven't used any moisturizer with it, without problems. I usually do, however, because it wouldn't be enough in the long term. My current PM regimen is - when coming home, remove makeup and clean - apply SC retinol 0.5 - then before going to bed, B5 serum and SC overnight cream AGE eye repair. In the AM : clean (using a gentler cleanser), apply CE Ferulic, wait a few minutes then SC daily moisturizer and AGE eye repair, then sunscreen. My skin is loving it (except the AGE eye repair cream). I used the retinol cream every other night for the first week, but I didn't have any reaction to it at all, so I'm now using it every night. Still not reaction, and no dryness. I will probably upgrade to a mild retin-a cream soon, if my derm accepts to prescribe it, otherwise the 1% retinol when this tube runs off. One start down because there is quite a lot of silicons in it - which is bad for the environement, and can be pore-clogging for some people.

I called in before purchasing this product to see if I could use this on alternate nights from my M2 Skin Refinish, the advice that was given that I could go ahead with that. When I asked about the packging and issues with the pump and that I had gone onto the SC official website to see that the packaging had been changed and improved to a proper tube (like tazorac retinol would come if you got a script from your doctor)...the picture has not been updated here and I thought twice about getting the product..I recieved it yesterday in the 'tube'..will review results in 2 weeks time :)
So true packaging sucks but cream amazing!

I have 2-3 at any given time trying to get the cream out of the pump. Please change the packaging cause the product is awesome!
Great product, terrible packaging

Love the product--I have been using this for about 5 years and my skin looks fabulous--brighter and few lines relative to my over-40 peers! I moved up to the 1.0% retinol about a year ago, with not-as-good results. It was too much for my skin, and caused flaking, dryness and breakouts! Ugh! Back down to the 0.5% about 2 months ago, and things have settled down again. I agree that the packaging, however, is horrid! The pump often doesn't work and I've asked for replacement product. The better solution for me is to pry the top off, which can be done without severely damaging the package, so that the top can be replace between uses. I really don't understand why Skinceuticals doesn't update the packaging... I haven't found a better product with the same level of retinol, however, so I continue to deal with the infuriating packaging. 4 stars because the packaging sucks but the product is fab.
Has really changed my skin

I've been using this for about a year and it has really transformed my skin. I am in my early thirties and I used to get frequent breakouts on my chin, leading to a lot of red splotches. My breakouts have stopped and my acne scars have faded dramatically, as well as sun damage spots on my nose, and my skin tone is now so even all over my face that I find that most days now I can simply go without foundation and my skin looks extremely smooth. I use the product every other day. I have tried to step up to using it more frequently, but doing so dries out my skin too much and given the quality of results I get using it every other day, I just stick with that schedule. After washing my face, I apply this on my skin and follow the recommendation to wait at least 15 minutes before following up with any other moisturizer. That helps make sure it is really absorbed in my skin. Of the various products I've tried, including acne systems and other anti-aging products, this has truly had the most dramatic results. I couldn't be happier with it!

I've been using this product for little over a month and am seeing some differences. The changes weren't immediate but my skin is smoother and more even in texture. I have mild acne and this creme seems to have helped. I used it twice per week for the first several weeks and I now am using it three times a week. I did have minor white head breakouts on the forehead and chin when I first strated using it. I was told to stick with it and that my skin was purging some 'gunk'. This was the case. After a couple weeks the small whiteheads were gone. I'd like to try the 1.0 when I finish this bottle. This is the first Retinol I have tried so I really can't compare this product to others.
Night Cream Over Serum is OK
Posted 7/30/2009 by Eileen K
First, this is an outstanding OTC retinol product which contains lots of other skin benefiting ingredients in a container that prevents the retinol from degrading. Second, Eileen M., it's perfectly OK to use your regular night cream over the retinol serum. Apply the serum first, then let it absorb for about 20 minutes. You can then apply your usual cream without diluting the power and benefit of the serum. This is not an either or type of product.
Skin Ceuticals retinaol 0.5 night cream.

I have been using this product for a few months now and have been surprised that it has not caused any irritation at all. I only use it 2 nights a week because you can use night cream when you apply this product and I'm not willing to forgo my moisturizer every night. I don't think I have been using it long enough to comment on fading of scares or wrinkles. But I can say I have used other retinol creams and have not been able to continue uses to see any effects because of the constant irritation. So I will continue to apply 2 times a week and have faith is will keep the wrinkles away. And I hope it really works because the bottle is really small.
