Not everyone with oily skin uses a moisturizer. And, not everyone with oily skin needs it. So, how do you know whether or not you need one?
If you are on an acne care routine with various exfoliants and antibacterial agents, then you will most likely need a moisturizer. Acne treatments tend to strip the skin of natural oils, leaving it dry and irritated. A good moisturizer can help the skin recover, heal, and ward off bacteria and infection.
The moisturizing needs of oily skin are fairly simple and do not require the use of heavy occlusive agents. A gel or containing humectants, , and barrier-repairing ingredients such as panthenol, niacinamide, ursolic acid, or ceramides should be used.
If skin still feels parched then layer the hydrating serum underneath a water-based, oil-free lotion. The combination of the two will provide intensive hydration without the use of potentially pore-clogging ingredients.
